One of fifteen destinations in the world worth travelling to!
Yes, that was The Observer’s recommendation in 2003, “if you want to escape the rat race!”
Hellisøy Fyrvokterbolig is situated on a tiny island, 40-50 metres off the coast of Fedje, "the island in the middle of the ocean".
More and more people have discovered this fantastic coastal gem right at the ocean’s edge. Fedje has a long-standing tradition as a coastal community and it has all the elements and forces of nature one might expect – the ocean and the ocean swells, but also calmer waters, a sparse population, a rolling landscape and wind from all directions.
Fedje is also famous for its amazing light, the sunset over Hellisøy lighthouse, the moon that lights up the horizon and the moonbeams reflecting off the surface of the ocean on a calm evening.
ACCOMMODATION
Lighthouse keeper’s house: 11 beds
Hellisøy Fyr offers accommodation in the lighthouse keeper’s house. You can rent the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper’s house for a day or a week. Normally, the lighthouse is let to groups of up to 15 people, or two to three families, but it is also possible to organise weeks for several different small groups sharing the house.
The house has a kitchen, two lounges, five bedrooms, WC, bathroom and a wood-fired sauna in the basement.
There are a total of eleven permanent beds plus spare mattresses. The lighthouse is very popular, so it is best to book early!
There are 10 sets of duvets and pillows, and you must bring your own bed linen or hire linen from Fedje Vaskeri og Renhold. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, a refrigerator, freezer and cooker. You must bring your own food or go fishing for it.
